What are the ratings for AMF panels?
From a minimum of 15KVA up to 1000KVA. Typical voltage ratings for automatic transfer switch panels are 440V tri-phase with or without neutral. When purchasing an automatic mains failure panel, consider a safety margin of 20% by choosing which has the biggest power: utility power or generator.

Using two contactors with mechanical interlocks will achieve precise control monitoring and protection of your emergency generator. The BeK3 features earth fault monitoring to detect troubles in critical applications.
The contactors, usually four-pole, are coil-operated switches that close a circuit when the excitation coil is supplied with alternating 230V.

These AMF panels offer an internal manual override. This will allow you to activate manually the changeover switch. These AMF panels are recommended when you must switch high currents. You can connect generators without a built-in controller. The BeK£ AMF controller will manage all tasks.

The advantages of the manual override control
The AMF controller features fully MANUAL, AUTOMATIC, REMOTE and TEST modes of operation. But in extreme cases, you can activate the EMERGENCY LEVER. This switch overrides any electronic control and directly connects the generator or the mains to your building.
The AMF panel connections
The BeK3 AMF panel features short-circuit-proof relay outputs for fuel solenoid, start solenoid and stop solenoid. Two additional relays can be used for user-defined particular functions. The first step is to connect the input-output terminals to the engine. Each output is rated at 4 amps. Use a pilot relays to drive the starter motor and fuel solenoid. The input-output lines are configured by default. But you can change the configuration according to your needs.
The engine INPUT-OUTPUT connection
You can now connect the CANBUS to the ECU and MODBUS if a monitoring system works on an RS485 serial interface. We offer software for control and monitoring free of charge.
The AMF panel CANbus and Modbus connections
If your engine features an analog sensor you must connect the terminals 30, 31 and 32. Terminal 33 is required to improve the precision of the measurements. It must be connected to the body of the engine.
The AMF panel ENGINE SENSOR connections
After you have carried out a complete test of the engine, you can connect the alternator. Follow the international standard for safety. Use cables of suitable size. The BeK3 can monitor a fault current to earth, but you must connect a current transformer to terminals 34 and 35.
The AMF panel ALTERNATOR connection
After a complete test of the generator, you can connect your load. You will test the generator on load conditions. You are required to set all protections about voltage, frequency, and overcurrent.
The AMF panel LOAD connection
The final job consists of connecting the Mains. After that, you can complete a test of your standby generator. You must set up all settings for mains failure that match the requirement of your load. Install a circuit breaker, on the transformer output, capable of opening the circuit in case of a direct short circuit.

How does an AMF panel work?
REDUNDANT MUTUAL DUAL-GENERATOR CONFIGURATION AMF PANEL
Regarding special applications, the AMF controller reveals its special character. The adjustable settings of the BeK3 can easily manage a dual-generator configuration.
The panel, despite the complexity of the automation, is simple. The two BeK3 controllers work together. The final goal is to rely on two generators in case of a prolonged utility power failure. In case of trouble on one generator, the other one will automatically start.
You can also limit the run time of a generator. The other generator will start for a programmable time. The cycle repeats itself until the utility power is restored.
Welcome to the wireless age
We started in 2012 to design electronic boards with fewer connections. Our panel require only 25 % of cables compared with a standard AMF panel. Why? The answer is simple: Bernini Design has its design centre for electronic equipment. We do not depend on external suppliers of electronic controllers.
The BEK3-based AMF panels feature remote monitoring
The BeK3 AMF controller features CANbus and MODbus remote control monitoring options. You can connect RS485 drivers to get GSM and TCP/IP monitoring. You can purchase separately the MODEM and TCP/IP server.

Thanks to the silicon gasket, which features an IP65, the internal parts of the panel are unaffected by the elements.
There is no evidence of rust on the inside.

To avoid this problem, a fibre-glass enclosure should be used when a panel works in saline marine environments. Regular maintenance with special coating must be periodically carried out.

You can connect these automatic mains failure panels to a MODBUS network, Internet or GSM. When the automatic mains failure panels are in AUTO mode of operation you have full access to start-stop the engine and remotely transfer the load.

Why using an amf panel does increase the long-term reliability of a standby generator?
All, and always, is about money. To save money, you install the AMF controller on the generator. This is a bad idea. Of course, it is a good idea for people who do business with the service. However, the goal of Bernini Design is different. We believe it is a serious solution. We believe that the final customer deserves safety.
In the above schematic, the overvoltages can easily damage the generator. No matter the insulation you can reasonably provide. The stray capacitance of the connection will win. Yes, you can find cheap ATS panels. But this is not a professional solution at all. The following picture presents one of the optimal solutions,
In the drawing, you can observe that the AMF panel prevents overvoltages from reaching the generator. The AMF controller can start the engine via an auto-start module installed on the generator [1] or directly via the configurable input-outputs line[2]. Both solutions are more than acceptable.
